I’ve always understood Claude Monet’s obsession with painting the exact same subject over and over. When you sit still in the woods, you realize the landscape never actually stays the same—the light and fog shift every fifteen minutes.
This is the companion piece to Shenandoah Mist I, painted from my van window during the same quiet, rainy holiday weekend. In this study, the heavy mist softened the background into a dreamy, golden-green haze, allowing the delicate reach of the upper branches to take center stage.
Kept separate or hung as a pair, these sister paintings are an exploration of patience, quiet observation, and the subtle magic of a rainy day in the mountains.
