Steamboat Art Museum Plein Air 2025
Rose daRosaShare
I’m in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, for the upcoming Steamboat Art Museum (SAM) Plein Air 2025 competition, and I couldn’t be more excited. After a week and change on the road from Miami, FL, painting and staying in my Prius along the way, I’m here and ready for an incredible week of art and community.

The SAM 2025 competition (plein air means painting outdoors, directly from life) officially begins this Friday, September 19. The event is limited to 45 artists this year, each capturing the beauty of the Yampa Valley on canvas.
Key events include:
-
Quick Draw at the Farmers Market – Sat. Sept 20
-
Art on the Rocks at Mythology Distillery – Wed. Sept 24
-
Opening Reception & Sale – Fri. Sept 26
-
Exhibit on view through Nov. 1 at SAM

Last year, my painting Rabbit Ears Nocturn placed 3rd in the professional division of the SAM 2024 Plein Air event, alongside Holly Kernes (Yampa River, 1st place) and Kathleen Lanzoni (Autumn Blessings, 2nd place). You can read more about that experience here: Third Place – Steamboat Plein Air Festival.
Mark your calendars and be part of the plein air experience — where art, community, and landscape come together. Finished works will be available for sale.

And if you happen to be out this way in Steamboat? Come be a part of the magic. This event is one of my favorites because it brings together artists, community, and landscape in a truly special way.
